Slide Guitar Workshop
A thorough look into the music of The Allman Brothers and the origins of their southern sound led by Gregg Allman's musical director, lead guitarist, song writer, and vocalist, Scott Sharrard. Investigate the history of slide guitar; right and left hand muting techniques; slide in standard tuning, open G, A, D and E tunings, hybrid tunings; intonation; key influences and demonstrations of their various styles (from Elmore James, Robert Nighthawk and Earl Hooker to Duane Allman, Lowell George, Bonnie Raitt and Derek Trucks). Personal tips on The Allman family tones, repertoire and general musical approach via slide guitar... You can expect to come of out of this workshop advancing your slide capabilities through the lens of the Allmans and their historic influences, with an emphasis on acoustic slide guitar.
Across all skill levels and, with guitars in hand, we will engage one on one and facilitate demonstrations and group play-along jams to drive results. We will tell stories and openly participate in discussions to make this session personal, aa well as lend insight that you will be able to apply to your own arrangements and practice regimens. Texts will be suggested that include guitar tab that can be purchased via Amazon. Recording is encouraged so you can call upon the session after the experience and utilize as you see fit.
