Courtney Hartman

Courtney Hartman is an American songwriter, guitarist, and singer who began her long exploration of acoustic music at the age of two, when she attended her first bluegrass festival. She started paying the guitar at the age of eight, after having already spent several years on the fiddle. Since then she has ruthlessly consumed all the music she could find, from Doc Watson to Pat Metheny. After studying on scholarship in the American Roots Music program at Berklee College of Music in Boston, she began touring with the Rounder Records quintet, Della Mae. She has since visited thirty countries and earned a Grammy nomination for their 2013 album This World Oft Can Be. She has also worked with Mike Campbell, Buffy Sainte-Marie, Bryan Sutton and many others. In 2014, Courtney appeared on the cover of Flatpicking Guitar Magazine, and was featured in Acoustic Guitar Magazine’s “30 Under 30,” where her flatpicking prowess was proclaimed “staggeringly good.” The Fretboard Journal heralded her as “...easily one of the greatest flatpicking guitarists performing today.” Courtney has been celebrated for her musicianship and creativity by talents as diverse as fiddle legend Matt Glaser, who called her “an extraordinary guitarist and fluid inventive improviser,” and jazz guitar virtuoso Julian Lage, who lauded her as “one of the great guitarists of our generation.”
