-Everyday practice and right hand "Calibration"! These exercises help the player first "feel" the strings and feel at home with 'your' guitar.
-Thumbpicking patterns to create groove and rhythms. Gaining thumb-independence.
-How to place a melody on top of fingerpicking.
-Knowing how to map your fretboard to understand open-tunings & how to benefit from using them.
-Open string scales in standard, and open tunings. As Buster B. Jones used to tell me, "bag full of tricks & pocket full of licks!"
-How to adapt flatpicking and lead licks for improving with fingerstyle.
-How to adapt old school techniques into modern fingerstyle music
I will also have some handouts of scales and open string runs for people to take home to practice with. I also do not mind if they record for their own personal use. I know this can be useful for the player afterwards to reference some of the material/ideas we covered.
